Sunday, June 29, 2008 · 41 Comments

Taking photos with politicians certainly does not mean that you are their good friend or working for them, but you may find the following photos of Saiful Bahari, the alleged victim of Anwar Ibrahim’s sexual desire, interesting.

Anwar faces death threat? Also, a photo of the “victim” with Najib’s PA

Sunday, June 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

According to Merdeka Review, PKR deputy president Dr Syed Hussien Ali claimed that Anwar Ibrahim has faced death threat a week ago after obtaining the evidence of the misconduct of IGP Musa Hassan and AG Abdul Gani Patail in prosecuting Anwar ten years ago on sodomy, then for the first time.

Anwar’s wife and Parliamentary Opposition Leader Wan Azizah also shows a photo of the “victim” Shaiful Bahari with a personal assistant of Najib in the DPM office.

Wait for more things to unhold. When the dust settles, if it ever does, we may have less and less trust in our public institutions. It would be a good thing for the country’s new birth as long as the labour pain is tolerable.

Some PR politicians’ responses

Sunday, June 29, 2008 · 2 Comments

From Malaysia Insider

Teo Nie Ching, MP (Serdang, DAP)

“As for whether it’s true, I’m a lawyer, I trust in evidence. No one is guilty until proven otherwise. What Anwar has done or not done, eventually he still needs to answer to God. Whether he is indeed a homosexual or not is not important to me, as long as he can do his job.”

Khalid Samad, MP (Shah Alam, PAS)

“It’s a sign that BN is increasingly desperate. They’ve run out of ideas. They’re looking for ways to prevent the inevitable swing from BN to PR to prevent some of the BN MPs who have expressed interest and are convinced of the need for change. They are putting Anwar in this position to prevent him, at the very least, from being able to contest in any upcoming elections.”

Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, SA (Seri Setia, Selangor, PKR)

“We’ve seen this 10 years ago. It’s the same old thing, which has clearly proven untrue and we’re clearly confident of the outcome. “

Dr Dzukifli Ahmad, MP (Kuala Selangor, PAS)

“My take is that this action is too desperate. I can’t think of why they have to put it this way. They have got internal problems in the BN – MCA, Gerakan. This is no new thinking. They are going back to an old plot, which is no longer exciting for the rakyat. And just when they’ve done not too badly by trying to put in place the anti-corruption commission and the judiciary… it looked like they were finally listening to the rakyat. But coming out with this …”

Empire Strikes Back – Anwar The Sodomizer Part II?

Sunday, June 29, 2008 · 4 Comments

The BN government is to prosecute Anwar Ibrahim for sodomy for the second time?

The latest shocking news: Anwar’s 23-years-old aide Shaiful Bahari has apparently gone missing for two days and now appears to have lodged a report against his boss for sodomy.

Now, even if you believe Anwar Ibrahim is someone like Larry Craig, do you think he would be so stupid to do it again just less than four years after his release?

Kian Ming and Oon were right that in the case of RPK’s declaration, the damage is done on the reputation and credibility of Najib and Rosmah.

Now, do you think the same applies to Anwar by presenting another damning allegation?

For goodness’s sake, how can you win by playing the old trick twice when it failed to win over Malaysians and the world in the first time?

You think Malaysians are going to sit there seeing the de facto shadow prime minister to be thrown behind bar again?

You think Malaysia is Zimbabwe or Burma?

No, if you think so, you will only see an EDSA station in Kuala Lumpur LRT soon.

“Those God who wants to destroy, he first makes mad.”

The Rose

Monday, June 23, 2008 · 2 Comments

This blog has never been about truly personal matters. It makes an exception today for two friends, an activist and a journalist, who have made valuable contributions to Malaysian public life.

“The Rose” (by Bette Midler)

Some say love it is a river
that drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razer
that leaves your soul to bleed

Some say love it is a hunger
an endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
and you its only seed

It’s the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance
It’s the dream afraid of waking that never takes the chance
It’s the one who won’t be taken
who cannot seem to give
and the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows
lies the seed
that with the sun’s love
in the spring
becomes the rose

Selangor abandons its promise on Freedom of Information!

Tuesday, June 17, 2008 · Leave a Comment

According to Malaysiakini, Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim has abandoned his government’s promise to enact a Freedom of Information legislation in Selangor, citing the constitutional provision that “that state laws which are not consistent with federal legislation” can be declared null and void.

The Menteri Besar seems ignorant that the Federal Constitution also lists under the state’s jurisdiction a power to regulate its own government machinery – which only fits common sense – under the Ninth Schedule.

In Australia, both the commonwealth (federation) and the states/territories have their own FOI laws.

I wonder if Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim should publish the legal opinion he has sought to enlighten the Malaysian – Selangorian in particular – public.

ST: Abdullah’s fuel-hike move fall short

Monday, June 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This is an informed critique on Abdullah’s petrol hike move. The problem is not the price hike, but the counter-measures that should have been in place but not. They come too little and too late.

Abdullah’s fuel-hike move falls short

From The Straits Times Southeast Asia correspondent Leslie LopezKUALA LUMPUR, June 15 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi’s scramble to stem the widening fallout from his high-stakes gamble to raise fuel prices is exposing his government’s shortcomings in crisis management.

What’s more, the policy flip-flops and the raft of poorly-designed counter-measures have only brought into focus the distortions in the Malaysian economy and Datuk Seri Abdullah’s reluctance to confront the powerful vested interest groups that profit from it.

The government’s missteps have also allowed the Opposition headed by former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to seize the initiative with public sentiment building against the government.

If Malaysians were beginning to feel a tad sympathetic to the many challenges facing Abdullah’s government, last week’s fuel hike only served to bring to the fore concerns that dominated the public mood just before the early March national election – anger over the rising cost of living, the perception that the Barisan Nasional coalition government is insensitive to the plight of most Malaysians and widespread corruption in government.

Are you angry with the petrol hike?

Don’t just blame the politicians. Blame also the police who had stopped us from demonstrations. Blame all members of public who see demonstrations as evils or crimes.

What have demonstrations got to do with petrol hike?
